Hiding duplicate ads on craigslist

Open a craigslist search, click the CL Pro Search icon beside your address bar, and click Deduplicate Listings. Reposts of the same ad collapse into a single result, the most recently posted one is kept, and you are told how many duplicates were removed. Click Show all listings again to bring them all back.
It works in every craigslist category, not just cars and real estate. Hiding duplicates is a craigslist feature only; it does not run on AutoTrader, CarGurus, Cars.com or Classics on Autotrader.
Step by step
- Open a craigslist search results page.
- Click the CL Pro Search icon beside your address bar. If you don’t see it, pin it first.
- Click Deduplicate Listings.
- Read the result in the popup: the number of duplicate listings removed. The page shows the same count.
- To undo, open the popup again and click Show all listings again.
Why craigslist’s own checkbox misses so many
Craigslist has its own “hide duplicates” checkbox, but it misses a lot, because sellers and agents repost the same item with small changes. CL Pro Search matches the way each kind of listing is actually reposted:
- Cars and trucks are matched on title and exact price, without mixing up different models or model years.
- Real estate is matched on photos, or on price, bedrooms and square footage, because agents keep changing the headlines.
Duplicate detection is automated and works from the information a listing displays. It will occasionally hide something that was not a duplicate, or leave a duplicate visible. It is a convenience, not a guarantee. If you find a duplicate we missed, write to support@coolapps.llc.
Housing searches
Craigslist loads listing photos only as they come into view, so on housing searches the extension scrolls through the results once by itself to read them, then returns you to the top. You will see the page move; nothing is clicked or submitted. While duplicates are hidden on a housing search, craigslist’s favorite and hide buttons are unavailable in the search results, but they still work on each listing’s own page.
If a search is too large to scan, the popup asks you to narrow it to fewer than 1,000 results.
Going back to a search
The listings you hid stay hidden for the rest of your browsing session, so if you open a listing and press Back, the duplicates are still out of the way. Hiding is applied to the page you are viewing and is not stored beyond that, so when you return to a search later you click Deduplicate Listings again — at no cost to your allowance.
How it counts toward the free allowance
A deduplication only counts against the free allowance when the extension actually hides a duplicate ad. If a search contains no duplicates and nothing is hidden, it is not counted. Deduplicating a search you already deduplicated does not count again, and neither does re-sorting the results or switching between gallery, list and map views.
